Již páté vydání Lumb and Jonesovy anestezie pokračuje v tradici poskytování aktuálních informací z oboru veterinární anestezie započaté již v minulém století v roce 1973. Nové vydání bylo kompletně aktualizováno a přepracováno. Je rozděleno do dvanácti sekcí. V úvodní sekci jsou popsány zásady anestezie, kde je čtenář seznámen s historií, koncepcí, klasifikací anestezie, anesteziologickým vybavením, monitorováním v průběhu anestezie, resuscitací a zvládnutí akutních stavů až po euthanazii a humánní usmrcení. Druhá sekce potěší farmakology, kde najdou nejnovější informace o anestetikách v rozsahu dvou set stran. Třetí sekce se věnuje problematice zvládnutí termoregulace a homeostáze v průběhu anestezie. Další sekce jsou rozděleny dle orgánových systémů (kardiovaskulární, respiratorní, nervový, jaterní, gastrointestinální a endokrinní, urogenitální. Zajímavá je sekce komparativní anestezie a analgezie, kde jsou uvedeny odlišnosti u anestezie dle druhu pacientů (pes, kočka, kůň, zvířata v útulcích, přežvýkavci, laboratorní a zoo zvířata, ryby, plazi, obojživelníci a ptáci). Anestezie domácí zvířata je popsána detailně v jedenácté sekci. Poslední sekce je sestavena z kapitole dle kategorií pacientů dle orgánového postižení (oftalmologičtí, ortopedičtí a onkologičtí) a dle věku (novorozenci, geriatři). Zajímavá je kapitola popisující anestezii u pacientů, u kterých se provádí speciální vyšetření –MRI nebo ošetření laserem. Knihu uzavírá detailně zpracovaný rejstřík.
Kniha je nabita aktuálními informacemi, doplněna kvalitními barevnými fotografiemi, nákresy. Dávky anestetik a léčiv jsou uvedeny v přehledných barevných tabulkách.
